David W. Potts Consulting, LLC (DWPC) can provide
you and
your business with comprehensive support for your personal computers
and peripherals, including hardware and software troubleshooting,
upgrades, repair,
networking,
integration, preventative maintenance and training. We can assist
you, remotely, for may issues . . . so if you are not in the Portland
area, we may be able to assist you with your needs. We can assist
with the detection and eradication of
viruses,
spyware and other malware, which can cause your computer to
malfunction,
slow down or worse (spyware can lead to identity theft and ransomware
and other malware can lead to data loss). We can
also assist with equipment selection and upgrade suggestions. As
the value of the personal data on most computers dwarfs the value of
the computer hardware and software, we can also assist in archetecting
a
backup solution to help ensure your
data is safe (a hard disk drive
is an electro-mechanical device . . . as with all electro-mechanical
devices, it is not a question of "if" it will fail, but rather,
"when"; and SSDs and Flash memory can also fail). Ransomware may
cause data to be inaccessible, so a
backup is needed to recover your files (and avoid the ransom).
Microsoft Windows V. 7 and above, as well as Mac OS X.
x
have backup options built into the operating system. Please note
I specialize in Microsoft Windows; although we have played with LINUX
and Mac OS X.
x, we generally
support only Microsoft Windows and
Microsoft Windows Server operating systems.
Many issues
can be resolved remotely . . . saving both time and money. This
also allows us to assist users of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft
Windows Server, who are not in the Portland area, with the same,
cost-effective support, regardless of your location.
Many people
perform little or no maintenance on their computer(s) until something
goes
wrong with the machine. A bit of preventative maintenance can
help avoid issues and help keep your computer running
efficiently. Too often, users will not
back up their
data until they have experienced a catestrophic event. DWPC can
perform, or teach you to
perform, software preventative maintenance on, and
backup of, your
computer(s) which can
help your computer(s) run faster and more efficiently and can help
reduce
the potential for failure or data loss. A comprehensive
preventative
maintenance program includes scanning for and eradicating
viruses, spyware and other malware, as well as
to update software and utilities and remove unneeded temporary
files, as well as many other steps. We
suggest
performing a complete preventative maintenance procedure every 6 months
and to install Windows Updates and scan for and eradicate spyware and
adware weekly (all currently supported versions of Microsoft Windows
will automatically apply critical updates, by default). Please
check with us before applying major upgrades, as we generally
suggest waiting until a new major upgrade to Windows has been released
at least 2
months before considering its
installation (and a full backup is suggested, before any major
upgrade). Some types of Web sites are more likely to infect
your
computer. If you surf these types of sites, you may need to scan
for malware, more often..
DWPC can
assist with troubleshooting and resolving issues wiith your electronics
and offers a scheduled preventative maintenance program to help you
ensure your computer(s) stay running well, if desired. Please
contact us if you are interested in any of our services.
